Arthur R. Shoop Arthur Russell Shoop of Springhill Senior Living Community, Erie and formerly of Harrisburg died Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Springhill Community. Born January 28, 1917, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Arthur Russell, Sr. and Lydia (Gambler) Shoop. He was raised in Richland and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College in 1938, his Master of Arts degree from Penn State College and his Doctorate of Education from Temple University in 1965. He taught mathematics at the former Hummelstown High School and served in many administrative positions, including supervising principal at Lower Paxton School District, first high school principal at Central Dauphin High School, assistant Dauphin County superintendent, assistant executive director at Capital Area Intermediate Unit and assistant superintendent at Central Dauphin School District. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown; Brownstone Lodge #666 F.&A.M.; Pilgrim Commandary No. 11; Knights Templar, Harrisburg; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg; the Navy League and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lillian Whitaker Shoop, who died January 25, 2000 and by a sister, Betty A. Parker. Surviving are a daughter, Alice G. McClimans and husband, Gary L. McClimans of Erie; and grandson, Todd A. McClimans of Canton, Michigan. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Buse Funeral Home, Hummelstown. Burial will be in Hummelstown Cemetery.
